The Bioinorganic Chemistry Group of Professor Corinna R. Hess at Universität Regensburg currently has positions for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. The work focuses on developing molecular transition metal photocatalysts.
The research contributes to the International Doctorate Program on Photo-Electro-Catalysis and CRC 325, Assembly Controlled Chemical Photocatalysis. This offers opportunities for collaborative projects and potential connections to industry. Team members are encouraged to present their work at national and international conferences and attend research-specific workshops at UR and other universities, supporting networking and career development. Methods include inorganic spectroscopy such as absorption, EPR and Mössbauer spectroscopy, electrochemistry and some computational work.
Researchers will develop earth-abundant transition metal complexes as catalysts for small-molecule reactions such as CO2 reduction and organic functionalization. The work includes synthesis of new coordination complexes containing first-row transition metals, characterization using spectroscopic and analytical methods, and reactivity studies. PhD students and postdocs also participate in teaching bachelor-level practicals and courses.
The group seeks highly motivated candidates with good teamwork skills. PhD candidates should have a Master's degree in Chemistry, experience in organic synthesis or coordination chemistry, and good knowledge of basic spectroscopic methods (NMR, IR, UV-vis). Postdoctoral candidates should additionally have a strong background in molecular chemistry and catalysis. Prior research experience in photochemistry or organometallic chemistry is particularly welcome.
Women are supported and strongly encouraged to apply. Universität Regensburg is a certified family-friendly university and supports balancing family and career. Applicants with a disability as described in SGB IX (2 Abs. 2, 3) will be preferred in case of equal qualifications.
